SATORU KOBAYASHI
The most amazing aspect of his work of art is that his world shows both tradition and modern-day approach to Japanese calligraphic culture. He mastered this _expression of flexiblity by his own appreciation toward Japanese culture of all time. To prove this, he draws not only characters but also calligraphic pictures, and the quality of combination of both arts is beyond our imagination.
For example, in the world of calligraphy, the traditional artsits always try to stay in the royal road to follow their predecessor. Of course, He covers this traditional approach and it comes from his genuine understanding to the traditional calligraphy. In addition, He totally created his own novel forms of art style in the world of calligraphy by adopting new appreciation to modernism of Japan. With that reason, his works have more ways of _expression than the traditional calligraphy artists used to have.
At the first glance, his works sometimes are more like designs of art than a simple traditional culture. The atmospher of his works will lead you to unkwon world of Japanese calligraphy, at the same time, his works will keep telling you the purity of Japanese originality. He is arguably breaking the new era of Japanese calligraphy.

In year 1985, his quest for boundary of calligraphy went up on the new stage as he became a student of Waseda University. He encountered his next master, Junsetsu Tuchihashi, and he stayed in the leading position at Waseda University Calligraphy club. At the same time, he played an important role as the cheif of Waseda University Federation. His talent and reliable leadership were highly appreciated all through his devoted contribution to prosperity of calligraphy, consequently in 1986, he was selected the chief of Tokyo Student Calligraphy Federation, which consists of 10 major universities all around Tokyo district. Assets of his life were created through this fruitful time in the university, his works and leadership received high reputation and honor through major exibits of calligraphy federation, which he organized with support by a national news paper, Mainichi Daily News. After his graduation from Waseda University, he annually holds a calligraphy exhibit called Matsuribayashi at Kitazato Gallery in Komagome in Tokyo with his mate, Taikyo Amemiya and some fellow artists. His novel approach to the calligraphic art, Cut and patch characters ( cutting calligraphic characters off the paper and the backup paper's color underneath the character makes the 3D thick color effect) and Piling up pictures ( piling up calligraphic picture pieces on and on to make 3D effects) are very highly admired.
His talent expanded into some other fields. He worked as an editor for some Japanese magazines and one of top web sites in Japan. Many great works of journalism on young generation's life style, tourism, and commercial events are left as footprints of his career. Still, he keeps producing guiding information to sensitive readers through his magazines and web sites.
